“God did a perfect job creating our food and bodies … the more we mess with them, believing we know what is best for us, the more problems we have. This results in the strong correlation between poor physical health and blocked spiritual expression.”

Catholic Calisthenics part of the CatholicFIT Routine

All the more reason Catholics need to be fit.- thank you Frog Geeks for this image.

The articles below explore the theory and inspiration behind the CatholicFIT Program.

Fitness Theology 101 – if our purpose as Christians is to continually restore our lives to the likeness of Christ, what if we consider doing this with our entire being. God blessed us with a natural ability to survive and play through the way we move and nourish our bodies, yet our 21st century lifestyle continually threatens what He originally intended.

In other words:

  • Theology = the study of religion and the nature of God
  • Fitness = an integration of physical attributes resulting in a person’s ability to work and play

Fitness Theology therefore is the study and experience of restoring our bodies to the healthy and happy state we were born. Here are a few questions to ponder, if only to increase your self awareness through the context of fitness and your religion:

  • where do we find challenges in using versus abusing God’s gifts? This is a primary discussion point in all of theology.
  • if we de-clutter our physical, mental, emotional and social selves, can we more fully express our faith in God?
  • are we not already spiritually happy and healthy, yet we have layers of “clutter” and “baggage” that are blocking our spiritual expression?
  • by spiritual expression, consider times when you feel called to act on something. Consider times when you feel compelled to act on even the smallest things … what is stopping?
  • Are the same things that are robbing us of our physical health also blocking our spiritual expression/health? (Our ego, worries, stresses, obsession with materialistic things, our reputation, etc.)
  • can we compare our right brain to our spiritual self? When we are young, we are more right-brained and rated more creative, just as we are more innocent, in tune with our intuition and spirit … is not our journey in life to restore our connection with our spirit, with our right brain, with our soul?

Hello Sylvia, were you asking a specific question? I don’t believe I used St. Benito’s cross image on this particular page. God bless!!
